After a fantastic winter cod season which saw excellent quality fish ranging from 8lb up to over 20lb we are really excited about the fishing over the next couple of months.
All the boats in Brighton have been bringing in plenty of fish suppers. Now with great anticipation, we are turning our attention to fishing for the Pollack, which are already showing in good numbers and sizes out on the wrecks. Read the rest of this entry »

It is our responsibility to you, to make sure that the weather is suitable to venture out to sea. The Skipper will always check the weather and will always use a variety of marine forecasts and his local knowledge of the waters. The daily forecasts which we all listen to on the TV or Radio will not be taking into consideration the speed of wind over water, which can be much stronger than it is over land. The skipper will pay careful attention to the forecast when deciding to take out a crew. This is so that the conditions are suitable for angling and also for your comfort and safety.
During our annual maintenance we fitted a Lowrance HDS-10 high definition display allowing us to take advantage of the latest broadband fishfinding and StructureScan technology from Lowrance. The bad weather has prevented us getting out on any charter trips since fitting it all last week, but we did get a break in the weather for a few hours on Saturday which gave us the opportunity to run over a couple of small inshore wrecks near Brighton Marina, in depths of 17 to 20 metres.
Well wouldn’t you just know it after several days in the tent at Brighton marina boat yard and some nice cold but dry weather the day we have to stand outside for the re-launch of Grey Viking the heavens opened and the wind blew, not unlike the day we took her out of the water when it was also freezing with big winds and snow.
It’s been a couple of days since I last updated you with what’s been happening so here is a brief summary of what’s been going on.
Despite the changes that are happening with the boat the one thing that hasn’t changed is the weather. It is still freezing cold and taking some of the pleasure out of the work. But the work must go on so what’s been going on the last couple of days?
Well we missed the snow that was forecast for last night so there was no excuse not to set off for the boat yard for another few hours of pain. We had sat last night and made a list of the jobs we wanted to get done today but once on site the list went straight out the window and we got on with jobs that could be done with frozen fingertips. Gee it was cold today!
Ok so the first thing to get on with today is finishing off the propellers and rudders then that’s one job that can be ticked off the list. I got on doing this while Ray continued to cut the gel coat. His aim for today is to get the whole of the grey cut and ready for polishing.
