During our annual maintenance we fitted a Lowrance HDS-10 high definition display allowing us to take advantage of the latest broadband fishfinding and StructureScan technology from Lowrance. The bad weather has prevented us getting out on any charter trips since fitting it all last week, but we did get a break in the weather for a few hours on Saturday which gave us the opportunity to run over a couple of small inshore wrecks near Brighton Marina, in depths of 17 to 20 metres. Well wouldn’t you just know it after several days in the tent at Brighton marina boat yard and some nice cold but dry weather the day we have to stand outside for the re-launch of Grey Viking the heavens opened and the wind blew, not unlike the day we took her out of the water when it was also freezing with big winds and snow. Well we missed the snow that was forecast for last night so there was no excuse not to set off for the boat yard for another few hours of pain. We had sat last night and made a list of the jobs we wanted to get done today but once on site the list went straight out the window and we got on with jobs that could be done with frozen fingertips. Ok so the first thing to get on with today is finishing off the propellers and rudders then that’s one job that can be ticked off the list. I got on doing this while Ray continued to cut the gel coat. His aim for today is to get the whole of the grey cut and ready for polishing. Read the rest of this entry »
Well the work started in earnest today. We got down to the boat yard around 9am and decided that I would crack on with cleaning the rudders and the propellers and Ray would start cutting the gel coat whilst Steve was working on the sea cocks.

Today was the day Grey Viking got lifted out of the water for her annual maintenance and it turned out to be a quite a morning. For some reason the weather fairy sent bitterly cold conditions and lashing of snow so by the time we had got the boat round to the other side of the marina, navigated the lock had the boat lifted and then pressure washed and moved into the tent (which took ages due to her height and resulted in a few heads being scratched) we were well and truly frozen and wet through.
