Todays trip was a wreck fishing trip and the crew was made up of individual anglers. Conditions were perfect for motoring offshore but the fishing was going to prove to be far from perfect drifting the wrecks today. Despite locating a bounty of pollack getting them to bite was proving to hard work. Continue reading
Sometimes you get up in the morning, look out of the window and you just know that you are going to have a good day. With another beautiful day forecast and the sea as flat as a sheet of glass we headed out from Brighton marina at 7.30am determined to find some good fish whilst out drifting the wrecks. We steamed out a couple of miles along the coast and turned the engines off and dropped over some feathers to pick up a few mackerel. With nothing much happening and no shoals showing on the sounder we soon decided to get moving. With the tide behind us we made good speed and time and were soon arriving at our chosen wreck. This was our first ground fishing trip on Grey Viking II since the winter cod fishing so we eager to see what had arrived on the inshore fishing grounds. We were all eager to head out of Brighton Marina into the sunshine for a fun day out. Continue reading
With the weather forecast predicting another fine day and mirror like seas we headed out again to the same wrecks we were fishing yesterday. Instead of sun we had clouds, instead of flat seas there was quite a swell and instead of the good fishing we experienced yesterday, today proved to be really hard work. With a bitter Easterly wind blowing and no tide running on our arrival we were not expecting to catch many fish for the first half hour or so but down went the lines for our first drift. A glorious Sunday morning awaited us as we prepared to head out of Brighton marina with a full crew to drift some of the wrecks in search of some good quality fish. It was ideal conditions for enjoying a day out with the sun shining, a beautiful calm sea and dolphins joining us for part of our outward journey. Lines, rigs and lures chosen and ready for action on our arrival at the first wreck of the day saw most of the crew set up with rhubarb and custard or black and red sidewinders. These have been the most productive lures for us on Grey Viking for the last couple of weeks so they were the two lures that we would be starting the day with. As it turned out these once again proved to be the right choice as we enjoyed a steady flow of fish for most of the day. Continue reading
What a fantastic day to be out on the water. A lovely sunny day and hardly a sniff of wind. Ray left Brighton marina with his crew on board Grey Viking II around 7.30am and headed off to the wreck he had selected to fish first today. It was a big tide today so the drifts were running at around 1.5 to 2.0 knots before slack water and although the first couple of drifts failed to bring any fish on board drift number 4 got us off to a good start for the day. With no charter today we had promised our little one that we would take her out fishing today. We watched out of the window all morning as the wind was blowing quite hard and sea white capping. It was starting to look like we would not be able to get out at all today. Luckily by around 2pm the wind had lessened so we grabbed our fleeces and headed down to the marina. Continue reading
The glorious weather we enjoyed yesterday had not quite vanished, the sea was not as smooth but it was dry and the sun shone. We were joined today by another lovely group of anglers who were new to wreck fishing and were eager to learn the ropes and catch fish.
We left the marina as usual at around 7.30am and headed out to a wreck close to where we were fishing yesterday. On board 2 lovely girls and 5 guys who were from far and wide joined today us. Grey Viking II today was a melody of accents. Continue reading
What a glorious day to be heading out of Brighton Marina for a days fishing. The sun shining and the flattest sea we have seen for ages. After the gale force winds that saw the Easter holiday blown out and the stressful trip of two days ago that saw one of our crew taken very ill we were all looking forward to enjoying the weather and the fishing.
