Start children fishing young

BY Mick - UPDATED 22/06/2015

Loes and Megan Fishing-130410-010With no charter today we had promised our little one that we would take her out fishing today.  We watched out of the window all morning as the wind was blowing quite hard and sea white capping.  It was starting to look like we would not be able to get out at all today.  Luckily by around 2pm the wind had lessened so we grabbed our fleeces and headed down to the marina.
We were not going far today and knowing that the inshore fishing is not yet in full swing we were hoping that if nothing else Megan would be able to land one fish and enjoy the experience of being out at sea.

Megan was looking forward to catching her first ever fish, she quickly pulled on her lifejacket and was ready to go.

There was a bit of swell so we kept tucked in under the cliffs and Megan got what she wanted and reeled in a whiting.  Before time for tea she followed it with a second.  She was thrilled.

Well done Megan.

Aunty Loes also came along and joined in the fun.  She landed both a whiting and a dab.

When you see how much pleasure children get from being outdoors and getting involved with fishing or any other activity it makes you wonder why we don’t always find more time to get them out more often.  I am sure that Megan will be nagging us very soon to get out and do some more fishing and we can’t wait to take her again.  Bring on the summer.
