This was our first ground fishing trip on Grey Viking II since the winter cod fishing so we eager to see what had arrived on the inshore fishing grounds. We were all eager to head out of Brighton Marina into the sunshine for a fun day out.
We had a crew of lovely lads who were out enjoying a days fishing as part of their stag party celebrations and so the day was as much about a good day out afloat as it was about catching fish.
With the entire crew being new to sea fishing we set about setting up all the rods with a simple rig, showing the lads how it was done as we went along. Once on the ground we baited up hooks with squid and also put out a couple of lines with mackerel feathers. Later some of the lads fished with worm and hermit crab.
Today saw for us the first real day of good numbers of Mackerel with the feathers doing there job and reaching the surface with 4 or 5 fish attached.
A good barbeque is on the cards for all the lads back on the beach this evening.
All caught today was this fantastic Gurnard, which came in at 4.5lb and was brought on board by Jaz.
Several species of fish were caught today including Dabs, Whiting, Mackerel, Dogfish, Smoothhounds and Starfish.
I am awaiting more photos for this trip and will add them once I receive them.
