Freezing cold morning and it starts with 10 minutes of scraping ice off the car. Today we are targeting winter cod, fishing on the ground. Good supply of pebble sized cuttlefish in the bait box and hat, scarf and gloves on we headed off to the boat to meet the crew.
Jay (mad Welshman) kicked us off with the first cod of the day followed very quickly by the second. Plenty of whiting and even a very small tope (at least 0.25lb hehe) were also caught.
Once the ebb got going the fish started biting and the day ended with some nice cod, 8 to 9lb being the average with a 10lb and 11lb cod and a personal best for the lady on board.
Jay finished off the day for us with another smashing cod but the catch of the day went to Mick 11lb.
Returned to port gutting as we went and the crew left happy and smiling. Another good days fishing aboard Grey Viking II.
