I was looking through some archives at home and came across some video clips which I thought had been long since lost so I’m delighted to have found them. I’ve edited the clips into a short film documenting the capture of a massive 90 lb Conger Eel for Tony (sorry I forget your surname Tony).
The fish was caught on a wrecking trip on 4th September 2010 and remains, at the time of writing this post, the biggest Conger landed aboard Grey Viking II. You can read the original catch report here.
We’ve had plenty of big Congers over the years but none have topped this beast (yet) which is why I was so pleased to find the footage. I’m sure there are much bigger ones down there and it’s only a matter of time before our boat record is broken!
For the record the fish was returned alive after weights and photos and it is a strict policy aboard Grey Viking that we return all Congers. There are only so many big specimens on any given wreck and we like to do our bit to preserve the stocks of these amazing creatures.
